Mahuika, Waiheke Island

A home that magically captures the essence of native Aotearoa, located at Cowes Bay, southeast of Waiheke Island. The impressive site encaptures the coastline, native bush, and nearby stream— which all remained a focal point throughout the entirety of the home's design.

The home's completion dates back to 2020, designed by the team at Daniel Marshall Architects and built by Lindesay Construction. A key desire of the client— who was a New Zealand family based aboard, was to design and create a holiday home that "forms a connection back to their native Aotearoa," says architect, Daniel Marshall.

The location itself is the perfect encompass of Aotearoa— Cowes Bay has remained a desired Waiheke Island destination among visitors since the 1800s. A villa was constructed on the new homes site in the early 1900s— this, alongside much native bush, had diminished due to colonisation of the late 1900s.
