Prospect House, Mount Eden

This contemporary family home draws inspiration from the client’s childhood memories of her grandparents’ mid-century house. Designed around a series of internal courtyards, it uses aluminium joinery not only for performance but as a central architectural feature—framing views, enhancing natural light, and connecting spaces throughout.

Crafted with a refined palette of APL Metro and APL Architectural Series windows and doors, the joinery plays a key role. Coated aluminium finishes were selected to complement the home’s warm, tactile materials—cedar, stone, and native timber—creating a cohesive and timeless aesthetic.

Expansive aluminium sliding doors open onto eastern and western courtyards, featuring flush sills for a smooth indoor-outdoor flow. These openings invite garden views and dappled light inside, encouraging effortless movement through the home’s courtyard-centric layout.

A glazed link corridor offers a dramatic connection between living wings, using full-height glass to reflect the adjacent pool and reinforce a sense of openness. Meanwhile, a concealed pivot door—perfectly integrated into vertical timber cladding—disappears when closed, showcasing the project’s commitment to seamless design.
